Hockey India League Chairman Narinder Batra announced on Tuesday that Bengaluru will be the seventh franchise of Hockey India League (HIL) with the JSW Steel Group in 2018 matches.
For the first time, Hockey Indian League has entered into the southern part of India with the inclusion of Bengaluru.
“A new HIL team will come on board since 2018 in Bengaluru. We have had a lot of discussions with Jindal Steel and they have agreed to play from 2018,” Batra, chairman of International Hockey Federation said during press conference in India.
Currently, Hockey India League’s has a six franchises that are based in Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Ranchi and Bhubaneswar.
India is all set to conduct the Asian Champions Trophy, the Youth Olympic Asian qualifiers the men’s hockey World Cup and the International Hockey Federation Congress matches in 2018.
In 2013, India had won the World Cup match in Switzerland. Now, the men’s hockey world CUP 2018 will take place at Bhubaneswar from November 28 to December 16.
